About the Warden System

The Department of State has no more important responsibility than the protection of Americans overseas. This responsibility includes the dissemination to the public of information on matters of safety and security of Americans traveling or residing abroad. In fulfilling this obligation, the Department of State issues Consular Information Sheets, Public Announcements and Travel Warnings to the public.

This page contains the most recent messages sent via e-mail from the American Citizen Services Unit to American citizens registered with the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad. If you are an American citizen and wish to receive these periodic messages directly, you must subscribe to our mailing list by registering your presence in India with the Consulate General.

Another means of disseminating information and maintaining communications with the American community is the Consular Warden system.  Both routine messages and warnings in times of increased threat or actual emergency are distributed.  The American Citizen Services Unit has developed a pyramid system to distribute Consular Warden Notices in Andhra Pradesh. All Americans who have registered their presence in India with the Consulate General are assigned to a Warden Zone, which are either functional (by organization) or regional (by District). A Primary and sometimes a Deputy Warden are assigned to each Warden Zone. The Consulate General sends Consular Warden Notices to these Wardens who then distribute the information by fax or phone to the other Americans in their zones. If you are interested in becoming a Consular Warden in your area, please contact us

Please feel free to contact us if you have questions about the Warden System. The ACS Unit welcomes any suggestions you have to improve the communication between the Consulate General and the American community resident locally.
