REGISTRATION & TRAVEL INFORMATION

Registering Your Presence in India or Bhutan

The Embassy urges all American citizens, even those visiting India for a short time, to register with the Embassy’s Consular Section. In the event of an emergency, the Embassy will provide information and other critical assistance to American citizens. Registration is the only way to guarantee that the Embassy is aware of your presence in the country and is able to contact you and assist you in such circumstances.

American citizens may now register online at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ or visit the Embassy's American Citizen Services Unit in person between 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday on any working day.  Registration is for American citizens only.  Registration by Indian citizens or person of any other nationality will not be accepted.

The Embassy's primary means of communication with American citizens in India during an emergency is our warden system. The warden system consists of American citizens who volunteer to disseminate information passed on from time to time by the Embassy to other American citizens in the country.  We also distribute this information directly via e-mail to any American citizen who asks to be included in our warden notification network by registering with us online or in person.  To see recent messages sent under the warden system, please click here.

Please visit the State Department's Web Page on Emergency Preparedness. A little planning and preparation can be very helpful in an emergency situation.
