REGISTRATION

Register Your Presence in India

The Consulate General urges all American citizens, especially those visiting or residing in India for an extended period, to register with the Consular Section. In the event of an emergency, the Consulate General will provide information and other critical assistance to American citizens. Registration is the only way to guarantee that we are aware of your presence in the country and are able to contact you and assist you, if needed. All American citizens can now register online at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs or visit the Consulate General's American Citizen Services Unit in person between 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding official holidays). Registration is for American citizens only. Registration by Indian citizens or persons of any other nationality will not be accepted.

The Consulate General's primary means of communication with American citizens in India during an emergency is our warden system. The warden system consists of volunteers who disseminate information passed on from time to time by the Embassy to American citizens in the country. We also distribute this information directly via e-mail to any American citizen who asks to be included in our warden notification network by registering with us online or in person. Recent warden messages are also available online.

Please visit the State Department's Web Page on Emergency Preparedness. A little planning and preparation can be very helpful in an emergency situation.
