U.S. Ambassador Roemer wishes a happy deepawali

Hyderabad – On behalf of the American people, U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer today expressed his best wishes for a happy and prosperous Deepawali. “Shubh Deepawali!” the Ambassador said. “Deepawali is not just a time or day, but a state of mind, an inspiration for reflection, and an enthusiastic, warm celebration of prosperity, close friendships, and unity. On Deepawali, peoples of diverse religions, castes and creeds come together to light the lamp of peace, harmony and well-being. During this time, the people of the United States of America would like to commemorate our important and prosperous relationship with India and with Indians all over the world. It is a truly singular relationship we share, one of the key partnerships for peace and prosperity in this great and challenging epoch in which we live.

It is a custom on Deepawali to eat sweets in celebration of the sweetness of close ties. In my time here in India, my family and I have been blessed by the generosity of the Indians and the warmth of their gift of hospitality. We are looking forward to celebrating many more Deepawalis in the years to come.”
