U.S. Consulate General Presents Cheque for Rs. 12.7 Lakh to
Osmania University Center for International Programs

HYDERABAD -- U.S. Consulate General Public Affairs Officer Juliet Wurr presented a cheque for Rs 12.7 lakh to Osmania University Center for International Programs (OUCIP) to purchase American Studies books and materials.Center Director C.Vijayasree said the money would enable OUCIP to update its book holdings, access online journals and databases and establish an audio visual room.  The funds will also provide travel stipends to Indian scholars conducting research at OUCIP’s American Studies collections.
The establishment last year of the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad has opened new opportunities for collaboration between the United States and Osmania University.  U.S. Charge d’affaires Steven J.White announced the gift when he visited Hyderabad on March 24, 2009, noting that it was offered in the spirit of strengthening mutual understanding between the American and Indian peoples.

The United States has a longstanding relationship with Osmania University.  In 1964 the U.S. constructed the erstwhile American Studies Research Center (ASRC) on land provided by the university.  For more than 30 years, this unique bilateral institution served Indian and American scholars as one of the world’s largest research libraries on international relations and the study of the United States. Today, as the Osmania University Center for International Programs, the facility continues to manage the library, conference and meeting rooms and scholars’ guest rooms under its broad mandate.
