Roemers join hands for saving lives, donate at blood bank
Exhibiting U.S. commitment for aiding development of health services in India, Ambassador Roemer and Mrs. Roemer visited the Rotary Blood Bank in Tughlakabad, New Delhi and donated blood to the voluntary organization on January 29th 2010.
With his visit, Ambassador Roemer not only joined the ranks of Delhi’s voluntary blood donors but sent across a strong message to a wide audience throughout the country for their much required participation in a noble cause. Commending the efforts of the Rotarians for saving human lives, Ambassador Roemer called for increased volunteer blood donation and encouraged his community to answer this call.
The Roemers received a warm welcome by the Rotarians as they were taken on a tour of the Blood Bank’s operations, providing factual data on blood product collection and processing focusing on quality end-products.
The Tughlakabad Rotary Blood Bank was established in 2002 by now-Chairman Mr. Sudarshan Agarwal who observed lack of availability of a reliable supply of whole blood and blood components with the area medical institutions. Mr. Agarwal addressed this need by coordinating volunteer blood drives that today provide quality blood products to approximately 400 area institutions using volunteer donations and state-of-the-art equipment.
Increasingly, many victims are falling prey to the scarcity of blood as the need for blood products for every age group exceeds the ready supply in Delhi.
